PART FOUR

HARRY AND ALICE IN AUSTRALIA

After they arrived in Melbourne at end of December 1884, Harry and Alice probably stayed there at least until September 1885, when their son Frederick was born at West Spencer Street.

Maybe it was about this time that Harry turned his hand to photography, which family stories say had been his occupation, before "Alicia Bool" i.e. Alice Blakeney lured him away to work in the theatre. He seems to have been the manager of St Georges Hall Photo Studio in Bourke St Melbourne, according to an undated "carte de visite" a sort of business card with Harry's photo on the front.

Alice had married her former dancing partner Michael Meagher at Fitzroy near Melbourne on 8 October 1891 and as her occupation was given as "Actress" maybe Alice could no longer care for her son Frederick aged 6. Around 1896, Alice and Michael went to live in Christchurch NZ, where Alice died in 1942 and Michael in 1946.
